My name is Jessy. And this is my locker. My rainy night. The blinding city lights I grew up with. My heartwarming cup filled with hot chocolate. The fire that burnt me down. The love that raised me from my own ashes. It's my little place to say that the world is beautiful even when the rest of the it disagrees. Here, I am standing on the shore, stretching my hands facing the sun.

I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you.

You can seek the advice of others, surround yourself with trusted advisors. But in the end, the decision is always yours and yours alone. And when it’s time to act and you’re all alone with your back against the wall, the only voice that matters is the one in your head. The one telling you what you already knew. The one that’s almost always right.

As babies, we were easy. One cry meant you were hungry, another you were tired. It’s only as adults that we become difficult. They start to hire feelings, put up walls. It gets to the point where we don’t really know what anyone thinks or feels. Without meaning to, we become masters of disguise.

There is a universal truth we all have to face, whether we want to or not, everything eventually ends. As much as I’ve looked forward to this day, I’ve always disliked endings. Last day of summer, the final chapter of a great book, parting ways with a close friend. But endings are inevitable. Leaves fall. You close the book. You say goodbye. Today is one of those days for us. Today we say goodbye to everything that was familiar, everything that was comfortable. We’re moving on. But just because we’re leaving, and that hurts, there’s some people who are so much a part of us, they’ll be with us no matter what. They are our solid ground. Our North Star. And the small clear voices in our hearts that will be with us, always.
